The Greater Camden Partnership (GCP) and
The Camden Special Services District (CSSD)
GCP was formed in 2001 by a coalition of the region’s public, private and non-profit entities. Our mission is to “promote the revitalization of the City of Camden through a joint public/private venture”. GCP is funded entirely from membership dues and fees for services. A board of 35 senior executives representing major employers, banks, hospitals, colleges and universities, government and major non-profit entities direct the efforts of GCP and its staff. Major achievements include: completion of the Downtown Camden Strategic Development Plan that guides the redevelopment effort in the heart of the city; the creation and funding of the downtown-focused CSSD “clean and safe” program with 14 Camden residents providing litter pickup, graffiti removal and Ambassador services; securing $59 million in grants to design and build the Ray & Joan Kroc Corps Community Center in Cramer Hill; the preparation of designs for the rehabilitation of commercial storefronts on Market Street; and a number of additional planning and design projects.
Projects underway include: implementing the façade designs for Market Street buildings; planning for the development of Workforce Housing in three locations in Camden; collaborating with the city and others on designs for public spaces around The Rand Transportation Center and City Hall; and the expansion of the CSSD clean and safe services into six Camden commercial centers.
